This house was built in a very different town, a town of empty hills. Back then the water was much closer, just across the road. From the rooftop it was hard to tell where the house ended and the water began. Now the hills in all directions are filled in its replica, while the house sits uninhabited. The reservoir has drained itself to match. But the water was always a part of this home; it can’t stay away.

In this monument of all windows, figures flicker to life.

You can see them from the park as the sun begins to drop, catch them in a mirror or the glint of an appliance. They emerge to fill in the blanks, to stroke the handwriting on every light switch, to dance this prism.

The reservoir is returning.
